The dental scribe that never sends patient data to the cloud.
Hold a key. Talk between patients. Whisper transcribes on your computer. Patient names, DOBs, phone numbers and Medicare numbers are stripped before any cloud call — and you bring your own API key. Pastes into D4W, Exact, Dentrix, Praktika, Ultimo, your email client — anywhere your cursor is.
Apple Silicon Mac (M-series) or Windows PC with NVIDIA GPU (4GB+ VRAM) required.
How the privacy layer works
- 1
Hold a key, talk, release.
Push-to-talk between patients. Audio is captured in memory only.
- 2
Whisper transcribes locally.
mlx-whisper on Apple Silicon or faster-whisper on NVIDIA. Audio never leaves your computer.
- 3
GLiNER strips PII on-device.
Patient names, DOBs, phone numbers, Medicare numbers, addresses are replaced with placeholders like
[PERSON_1],[DATE_1]. The mapping stays in memory only — never written to disk, never transmitted. - 4
You pick the cloud LLM — with your own key.
OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq (free tier), Google Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (LM Studio, Ollama, OpenRouter). The cloud only sees redacted text.
- 5
Reconstitute and paste.
The cleaned text gets the original names plugged back in locally, then pastes wherever your cursor is — D4W, Exact, Dentrix, Praktika, Ultimo, Gmail, anywhere.
Privacy Audit (built in). Every dictation is logged locally with the raw transcript and the redacted version that left your machine. Open About → Privacy Audit any time to see exactly what was sent. Local-only, never synced. Show it to your compliance officer.
vs. the subscription scribes
If you're already paying $200–$300 a month for a scribe that streams audio to someone else's server — read this.
| Cloud scribes (Heidi etc.) | Tap2Talk Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | A$200–A$300/month subscription | A$149 once. Lifetime. |
| Audio leaves your computer? | Yes — sent to their servers | No. Local Whisper. |
| PII redaction before any cloud call? | No | Yes — on-device GLiNER |
| Pastes directly into your PMS? | Copy-paste from a separate web app | Yes — straight to cursor |
| Works over Citrix / RDP? | Often broken | Yes |
| Inference cost | Bundled (you pay regardless of usage) | Your API key, cents per use |
A$200/month adds up to A$2,400 a year. Tap2Talk Pro at A$149 pays for itself in 22 days. After that, ongoing inference cost via your own API key is roughly cents per dictation.

FAQ
Is this AHPRA-approved?
No software is “AHPRA-approved” in the certification sense — AHPRA doesn't certify products. What Pro is designed around is AHPRA's privacy expectations: audio stays on your computer, identifying patient information is stripped before any third-party processing, and you can produce a local audit trail showing what was sent. Show your compliance officer the Privacy Audit panel and the architecture — we can email you a one-page privacy diagram if helpful.
What practice management software does it work with?
Anything that accepts a paste. We've tested D4W, Exact, Dentrix, Praktika, Core Practice, Centaur, and Ultimo. It pastes wherever your cursor is, so it also works in Gmail, Word, secure messaging, referral templates — anywhere.
Why “bring your own API key”?
Two reasons. (1) Your data goes to a provider you choose, not one we picked — including providers like Anthropic that publish a HIPAA BAA. (2) Inference for a busy clinical day costs cents, not A$200/month. Marking that up wouldn't be fair, and bundling it would force everyone into the same cloud.
Does it work over Citrix or RDP?
Yes — that's actually one of its strengths. Pro records audio on your local Mac/PC, transcribes locally, and pastes into the focused remote window. Practices on managed Citrix farms get the same experience as ones running PMS locally.
What about iOS / Android?
Mobile uses the standard Tap2Talk cloud flow today. Local Whisper on phones is V2 — doing it well is hard and not yet shipped. For clinical use, the desktop Pro flow is what you want.
Refund policy?
14-day no-questions refund. If it doesn't fit your workflow, email us and we'll refund you. We'd rather have honest feedback than an unhappy lifetime user.
